As a community-based settlement agency, the Mennonite New Life Centre of Toronto (MNLCT) has been welcoming immigrants and refugees since 1983. We show our compassion for newcomers in practical ways by helping with immigration needs, teaching English, and offering mental health and wellness counselling. We have three offices across the city, and together we build community – a place for the voice and participation of all.
Language Classes
One of the first steps on the path to living and working in Canada is learning English. After visiting the YMCA for a Language Assessment, newcomers can register for free English classes. We offer full-time and part-time LINC classes, on weekdays and weekends, from Levels Literacy to 6. Childminding is also available, a free child care service while you are in class. For higher-level language learners, we host Ryerson University’s Workplace Communication in Canada course to help newcomer professionals ease their transition to the workplace. Contact us now to reserve your space in a class.
Mental Health Programs
Many immigrants and refugees experience high levels of migration stress and trauma, and they can struggle to find help in their first language. Our Community Mental Health Program uses the skills of internationally trained mental health professionals to meet the emotional health needs of newcomers. Counsellors provide group workshops and individual counselling on topics such as parenting and family issues; grief and loss; anxiety and depression; and managing transitions. Make an appointment before you land to jumpstart your journey to wellness.
Employment Programs
Newcomers experiencing mental health barriers to finding a job in Canada may be interested in our Helping Our Newcomers Prepare for Employment Success (HOPES) Program, where participants receive one-on-one counselling, group workshops on career exploration, and employment agency connections and coaching. If you are a mental health professional who wishes to work in the mental health sector in Ontario, the Bridge Training Program for Internationally Trained Mental Health Professionals may be a good fit. Prepare for success by knowing your employment options before coming to Canada.

The MNLCT is a place of welcome, friendship and community, where newcomers and neighbours gather to support each other, learn from each other, and take action together for a more just and compassionate society, and we hope you join us when you arrive in Canada!
“When you are a newcomer and are far from familiar surroundings, you feel alone. The Mennonite New Life Centre and its staff made me feel like I belonged again.” — Norma J., Volunteer/Client
