Parent support groups can help you connect with other parents and more!
BGC offers two caregiver support programs for parents who are navigating the challenges of raising teens: Parents in the Know and Parents Together. These programs are available in:
- Delta
- Burnaby
- Vancouver (offered in both Vietnamese and English)
Parents Together and Parents in the Know are professionally facilitated education and support programs for caregivers who are experiencing challenges while parenting a teen. Parents come to the group with a wide range of issues. Many parents reaching out for support are feeling guilty, blamed by others, isolated, and at a loss as to what to do. Parents may describe their youth as defiant, depressed, angry, suicidal, abusive, and unmotivated. Mental health concerns and substance use among youth are common concerns for families.
Parents Together is an ongoing education and support group for parents and caregivers of youth ages 12-24.
Some families attend Parents Together for weeks and months for ongoing support through challenging times.
Parents in the Know is a 12-week, structured education program for parents and caregivers of youth.
This program is offered three times per year, and caregivers may choose to repeat the program to benefit from learning and connection.
Early years services in Delta and Ladner offer fun and educational programs for caregivers of infants and their children.
BGC offers early years programs at two family resource centres, which are designed to encourage children to learn through play. These spaces focus on early literacy experiences, strengthening parenting skills, and promoting community connection.
Programs offered include:
- Family drop in – visit our centres and spend time in a welcoming environment set up with toys and equipment for children to explore! Our knowledgeable staff facilitators can provide information on community services, nutritious snacks, songs, activities, and more!
- Parent Connect – A support group for parents and families living in Delta with children ages 0-6
- Growing and Learning Together – A place for young moms and their babies to connect and access support!
