FreeAre you a newcomer youth looking for opportunities to grow your leadership and confidence skills with peers and professionals? Register for the NYLP today!
The NYLP is a free, hybrid, 7-week leadership training program for newcomer youth (ages 16-29) in Toronto. The program connects newcomer youth to information, resources, and networks, helps with transitions into a new community, and prepares participants for a Leadership Placement in one of three positions: Professional Mentoring, the Youth Advisory Committee, or a volunteer/employment position externally.
How does it work?
Over the course of 7 weeks, participants will attend weekly “core” sessions every Tuesday evening, as well as a minimum of 5 out of 11 “choice” sessions every Thursday evening. We will meet twice a week, for 3-4 hours each (6-8 hours weekly). The program’s start date is July 2nd, 2024, and end date is August 15th, 2024.
During this program, you will:
- Set goals and create a customized action plan
- Increase knowledge in soft skills by attending leadership, communication, and confidence-building workshops in a Canadian context
- Increase confidence and well-being by attending events to grow your social and professional networks
- Build your resumes and learn how to write cover letters
- Showcase your skills in a volunteer group project
- Learn more about your new home
- Earn volunteer experience/hours
- Complete a journal/booklet with self-directed exercises
- Train to be eligible for one of three Leadership Placements

This program is FREE, and participants will receive volunteer hours/experience as well as a certificate of completion! You will also:
- Receive TTC tokens (in person sessions only)

- Connect with peers and build a social network
- Gain Canadian experience to add your resume
- Access Leadership Placement opportunities
Eligibility: (please read carefully)
- Ages 16-29 and;
- Resident of Ontario and able to attend in person sessions in Midtown Toronto, and;
- Permanent Resident or;
- Convention Refugee or;
- Ukrainians under CUAET.

To register, please complete the Eventbrite ticket form, pay attention to the instructions, and keep an eye out for emails from Eventbrite or our Newcomer Youth Settlement Worker, Nour.
