Toronto is one of the most diverse cities in North America and has many resources to help newcomers settle and integrate. If you are planning on moving to Toronto, you should know that Toronto Public Library offers many free services and programs for newcomers and has collections in over 40 languages.
One valuable resource for newcomers is the Library Settlement Partnerships (LSP) program. Now in its 9th year, LSP enables local settlement agencies to work year-round within Toronto Public Library to provide information, referrals and group activities for newcomers. The settlement workers speak different languages such as Mandarin, Spanish, Arabic and Russian, to name a few. Funded by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada and partnering with seven Toronto-based settlement agencies, including YMCA Newcomer Information Centre, it is the largest LSP in the Province of Ontario.
LSP offers settlement services at 13 Toronto Public Library locations:
Some of the free LSP programs that newcomers can take advantage of are English Conversation Circles, Citizenship Preparation classes, job search strategies, financial awareness, health information and more!
