SUMMARY:Building Cross-Cultural Bridges with IBPoC Youth
DESCRIPTION:Join us this February for a series of free online presentations by experts\, exploring the diversity of human experience through the lens of psychology. \nWithin the theme of Building Bridges\, this brief presentation will discuss Building Cross-Cultural Bridges in 2024. We begin by looking at the shifting demographics in our country and the ever-increasing importance of acknowledging the barriers and challenges of providing proper mental wellness care to IBPoC youth in 2024. Recognizing the importance of racialized violence is key. We will also briefly discuss a couple of therapeutic ways to “pour into” our racialized youth. And\, conclude with a concrete recommendation straight from Black youth. Building cross-cultural connections begins with our own inner work and a realistic view of the world that our Indigenous\, ACB\, Latinx\, Asian\, and Bi-Multicultural youth face in 2024. \nThe presenter’s bio \nDr. Lisa Gunderson is an award-winning educator and community leader. Dr G received her Ph.D. in clinical psychology from USC. A former tenured professor\, she is a registered clinical counsellor and an inactive California licensed psychologist. For 25 years\, she has engaged in teaching\, consulting\, and training around educational and mental wellness issues that impact racialized populations in Canada and the US. She provides clinical supervision and peer consultations for persons working with IBPoC populations. A Practical Guide for Counsellors: Co-Creating Safe and Culturally Responsive Relational Spaces (2023) is her latest publications. \nTo learn more\, visit oneloveconsulting.com \nRegistration deadline: Feb 5th at 12 PM (PST) \nLooking for a psychologist? Explore our referal service.

In response\, many organizations have developed innovative solutions and strategies to address these issues and support their clients. Through our plenary sessions\, roundtables\, and workshops we will explore new approaches and partnerships to issues such as the refugee housing crisis\, employment\, food security\, community programming\, and more. This will also be an opportunity to connect to other service providers and stakeholders in the region. \nWe are proud to once again return to hosting the BRIDGES Forum as an in-person event at the Centennial College (Progress Campus) Event Centre. \nWe strive to make this an accessible and inclusive event for all attendees – please do not hesitate to contact the event organizer regarding accommodations and accessibility needs\, or to request live streaming services if you are unable to attend in-person.
