There are many statutory holidays in Canada. Statutory holidays, also known as public holidays, are days in the year where all federal offices including banks, are closed. Most employees are entitled by law to have this day off and receive full salary for the day. However, some businesses and essential care workers still have to work on this day. In this case, employees must be compensated financially (1.5x or 2x their regular wages).
