Next Stop Canada is excited to be partnering up with the Build ON Program, offered by the YMCA-YWCA of the National Capital Region.
Build ON is a new Pre-Arrival Program, funded by Immigration, Refugees & Citizenship Canada, offering free information and orientation services to those preparing for work in Ontario Skilled Trades.
The program, made available to accepted permanent residents (those who are still living abroad), provides online services rendered through a personalized user dashboard; one which is tailored to user’s personal needs and objectives.
Registered clients are able to meet with Build ON Employment Consultants (via Skype), while working through a custom curriculum, comprised of online workshop and take-away materials.
Clients of the Build ON program can expect to learn about: Ontario Trade Certification, Ontario Trade Equivalency Assessment, Popular Trades, Canadian Workplace Culture, Resume Writing, Interview Preparation, and much much more.

Hello, my name is Aaron and I am an Employment Consultant with the YMCA-YWCA Build ON Program. I have worked for many years in the Settlement Sector, at first as a Community Awareness Facilitator, later as an Information & Referral Specialist. In my new role, I work closely with newcomers sharing my knowledge of Canadian employment markets and community services. My ambition is to help newcomers settle into their new communities, and find meaningful employment in their respective fields. If you are planning to move to Ontario, and would like to learn more about employment in the Ontario Skilled Trades, consult with me!
Hello! My name is Jessica and I am an Employment Consultant for the YMCA-YWCA Build ON program. I grew up with a parent in the Canadian Forces and moved around a lot, but I still consider myself an East coaster! I love my job and my Y family. I was an Information and Referral Specialist at the YMCA-YWCA Newcomer Information Centre before joining the Build On team. My ultimate enjoyment is to travel and experience different cultures and languages. I strongly believe everyone has an amazing story to tell and I’m looking forward to helping you with yours as you settle in Canada!
Hi! My name is Imane and I am your Build ON Employment Consultant. Just like you, I was a newcomer to Canada. My husband and I came to Ottawa looking for new opportunities. As I settled in my new community, I wanted to share my experience and help other newcomers through my work at the Y. I enjoy photography, meeting people and learning about different cultures and spending time with my friends and family. We can talk in English, French and Arabic. Looking forward to meeting with you and helping you to get ready for work in the Skilled Trades in Ontario.
Hello, my name is Ornella Atangana and I am the Program Coordinator for the Build ON Program. I was born in Cameroon, but my family moved to Canada when I was 6 months old. This means that I have spent most of my life living in different parts of Canada, namely the provinces of Quebec, Manitoba and Ontario. On a professional level, I hold a Master’s degree in Social Work, and possess three years of professional experience working with newcomers. Being part of the Build ON team means pursuing my interests. This is why I am excited to share my passion for the Build ON Program, and look forward to meeting you all!
Hello, Hallo, Hola, Hej, Salut, Oì, Ciao, 你好! I am originally from Peru, but as you most likely can tell from my greeting I’ve lived in other countries. It is good to know where you are from, but to me, it is more important to know where you are going. And moving to a new country it is definitely a big step! I have been working as Employment Counsellor for more than 6 years. Impacting people’s lives is my motivation. As part of Build ON, I am really eager to help you to have a successful experience in your integration process in Canada!
